Well excuuuuuse me…did I just have a cheeky little nap on the sofa and all of a sudden it was 2018? At the risk of sounding like a cliché, this year has FLOWN! In truth, it’s been quite the year, so here’s a little round up of my 2017 highlights. There’s plenty of blog posts and videos linked so that you can catch up…
I was given the all clear from cancer
After a truly hideous cancer diagnosis in August 2016, I was given the ultimate kick start to the New Year when I was told that my body no longer contained any active cancer cells. Yes I still have ugly lumps and bumps in my vital organs, but they are no longer killing me. As my 2017 highlights go, this probably tops the lot. I made a video to explain what happened, and you can read the story from start to finish here, coz oh yeah I’ve only gone and raised over £2k in response! There’s just the simple matter of a 100 mile bike ride in 2018…
We brought a new member of the family home
Ahhh Bear cub, how I love you. If you’ve been sticking with me for a little while now, you will know that when our pup turned one I wrote a little love note to him. Wrongly or rightly, we made a split decision to add a puppy to the Richards family in January 2017, and I honestly didn’t know I had so much love to give a four legged friend.
I returned to work after a 6 month break
I’m fairly sure most of you get the Sunday night dread, when you know a new Monday morning is looming ahead of another week in the office. Never again will I take that for granted, as I was unexpectedly plunged into 6 months off work as I faced cancer. Every day felt the same, I longed for that Friday feeling, and it just seemed as though time stood still. It felt SO good to have the normality of work back in my life. I never thought something as simple as my 9-5 would make it into the 2017 highlights!
A Hilly Hut sleepover at The Fish
To celebrate my 28th birthday we booked ourselves into a Hilly Hut at The Fish, oh my goodness I have found my happy place! We had good food, fresh air, and a private hot tub to gaze at the view from. I had some clarifying moments here where I started to feel like life could resemble a little bit of what it used to be. I definitely want to head back here in 2018. If you fancy a nosy, the vlog is here.
A few nights in Brighton
For the last few years we have coincided our yearly holibob with our wedding anniversary in April. This year felt a bit odd though and I wasn’t quite ready to step onto a plane and jet off to another country. So we packed ourselves off for a few nights in Brighton (with Bear of course!), and it was just what we needed. We had an apartment for a few days, so it really felt like we were just living there, doing our own thing, which included our first Deliveroo and a Dum Dum Donut! Watch the vlog here…
Weddings, weddings, weddings, weddings…
Yep, four to be precise! This was the year of weddings, and we had SO much fun. From catching up with family members that we just do not see enough of, to watching my amazing husband stand up and smash his Best Man speech, we have made some amazing memories with people we love. Definitely one of my fave 2017 highlights, congratulations to all of our newly married friends and family!
San Francisco dreaming…
It has been a dream of mine to visit San Francisco, and we finally made it happen! I planned that holiday to a tee, we got so much done and loved every second! We cycled to the Golden Gate Bridge, snooped around Alcatraz, and wandered around Alamo Square. San Francisco suited us down to the ground. Holiday vlogs are my fave, here is San Francisco’s…
Hawaii…I know, Hawaii!
Well you can’t take it with you can you? After a shitty 2016, we treated ourselves a bit with this holiday, and it was worth every penny. Fave bits of Hawaii? The view at Diamond Head, the EPIC shave ice that was waiting for us at the bottom of the mountain, and the beaut sunset on Waikiki beach. You can see it all here…including THAT pool at the Surfjack hotel.
- Ross turns 30..I knew this would be one of my 2017 highlights before it even happened! With Ross turning 30, and a crappy year behind us, I really wanted to treat him. I knew he would want to be surrounded by his friends doing something chilled but fun. We booked this Air B’n’B for the weekend and it is honestly one of the best weekends I have ever had. I can’t wait to find a reason to go back. We then took off for a couple of nights in Edinburgh, where we absolutely fell in love with the city. If you are thinking of visiting at Christmas, ermigaaad it’s amazing.
- Christmas DayWe hosted our first Christmas this year, which involves 10 family members in an average 3 bed end of terrace house. I’ve fancied giving it a go for a while now and I am SO pleased we did! Yes we were all shoved in like a tin of sardines, and yes, the volume was louder than a Little Mix concert at times, but we loved every minute. Well, except sharing a room with the dog, because he’s a noisy little bugger. My turkey was perfect (cheers Phil Vickery), and the roast potatoes were cooked at the same time as the pigs in blankets. I was left feeling very content this week when everyone left after Boxing Day, like we had done Christmas proud. Definitely one of my 2017 highlights!
D’ya know what? Writing down all of my 2017 highlights makes it sound like an even more epic year than I realised! I’ve had to stop myself there, but let’s not forget that I also started this blog in October 2017, and who knows where this will end up. I’m enjoying every second!
Here’s to plenty more good memories in 2018. Happy New Year everyone, I will you love, health and happiness.
P. happy with the entire coincidence that this post is about my 28th year on this planet and I happened to stand outside number 28!
