We moan a lot, don’t we. Our days are often just a cascade of errors. You missed your alarm. The car needs petrol and you just don’t have time. Sandra from accounts is on your back again, and you could really do without office life. It makes you want to curl up in a blanket and watch Friends reruns until the world goes away. It can be really difficult as you compare yourself to anyone but you. Scrolling through everyone else’s highlights reel. Wondering when you’re going to win the lottery or a dream opportunity is going to fall into your lap. Are you wishing your life away? Focussing on all the mini catastrophes and dreaming of the day when life all falls into place. Guess what, we don’t all love every second of every day. But finding one thing that you are passionate about can turn things around and make you love your life.
Finding your “thing”
For years I would tell you that I didn’t have a hobby. I literally didn’t know how to answer that question. I guess I thought that a hobby needed to be sport related, or something like baking. Neither of these are my bag. Do you feel the same? You’re just bumbling through life, to and from work and a bit of social along the way? Firstly, let me tell you that there is nothing wrong with that. But, if it’s making you feel a bit flat, maybe flipping the focus to something you’re passionate about will help you love your life.
Do you think that you don’t have anything in your life that you’re passionate about? Make a list now of all the things you love in life. Could one of those become your hobby? How could you spend more time doing that thing?
- Love photography? Think about developing your skills. Take a course, or get out on the weekends and simply throw yourself into it. (P.S. our evenings are about to get SO MUCH LIGHTER! aka all.the.photos!)
- Animals your thang? Start volunteering at an animal shelter or walk your neighbours dog!
- Want to travel the world? Pinch a few of Sophie’s tips on how to travel with a full time job.
Just a few ideas to get you thinking…
Fitting it all in
If you love your job, then great. But if you don’t? Just remember that it’s primary function is to pay your bills. There are plenty more hours in the week to fill with something you love more. Something that will make you love your life. I wrote a little post about how your career doesn’t have to define you, and I reckon you’ve got at least 25 hours a week to fit something in around work. I’m not sure this one is for me, but can you get up 1 hour earlier? Or dedicate the first hour after you get home from work to that thing you love? And schedule in some time over the weekend.
If you really love “your thing” you will make it happen.
How I make it work
For me, life simply can’t be about the 37.5 hours a week that I spend at my desk. My passion is blogging and everything that comes with it. I thrive on the creativity of it all, putting something out into the world that I think looks great. Something that someone else could benefit from.
I love creating. My v willing husband is also working on his own passion, photography, so that works well in my favour lol. We love getting out together and taking photos. He even kinda enjoys taking my outfit photos now. AND LOOK LOOK LOOK, HE’S GOT SO GOOD AT IT.
This may sound silly to some, but having my blog gives me something to be excited about. I’ve noticed a difference in myself since I started, and I love it. I spend evenings tapping away at a new blog post. I spend weekends snapping away. And lately, blogging has even opened up some opportunities and a chance to make some new friends, how v v exciting.
Blogging isn’t the answer for everyone, but go back and make that list. Is there something you want to pour more of yourself into? What makes you love your life?
