Do you know what I miss more than anything about Christmas as a kid? Going through all my presents again during the evening! There was My Baby All Gone to feed, Furbies to talk to one another or Polly Pocket roller skates to whizz around on, keeping me occupied for hours (click the links for a little reminisce…hoping it’s not just me who remembers these!). It’s not quite as exciting as an adult though. You don’t get toys that you can play with all evening, unless you’ve been gifted something techy. So I always find myself wondering what to do on Christmas Day evening! I don’t want it to feel like an anti-climax, so here’s a few things that I’m going to do to keep that festive feeling. Hopefully you will be able to join in with no effort or prep!
Turkey sandwiches and pickles
Yaaaaaas! It has been YEARS since I have enjoyed a proper Christmas Day evening dinner. Must haves include cold meat, pickles, cheese and crackers, and anything left over from Christmas dinner. Little bit of stuffing in that sandwich? Load me up! Leftover Yorkshire pudding? Yas please!
I really don’t want everyone to sit looking at their phones all evening, not talking to one another. I love playing silly games like “Who Am I” and “Heads Up” so if you’re wondering what to do on Christmas Day evening, I would v much recommend these. Hmm see told ya I missed playing with my new toys in the evening. These two are easy peasy as all you need for “Who Am I” are some bits of paper to stick to your head, or download the “Heads Up” app!
Music (preferably cheesy Christmas)
Music adds the party atmosphere, so rather than let everyone drift off into a sleepy turkey hangover, I am going to p. much force the Christmas tunes on my family until they have no option but to party along with it. Might even put a lock on the iPad so that no one can change it from the Christmas hits lol…I mean it’s going to be months until I can belt out Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” again!
Christmas TV specials
Ok ok, so I don’t want to sit around for hours on end with the TV blaring out and no real life conversations, but you can’t beat a Christmas special, right? Excuse me whilst I sit here petitioning for a new Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special…you with me
Make some plans for the New Year
My family don’t get together too often as a whole group, so I am going to take this opportunity to chat about plans we could make for 2018. Or, maybe it’s time to think about your next holiday? Once the Christmas cheer is over, you will definitely need something to look forward to.
If you’re still wondering what to do on Christmas Day evening, some of my cosy Christmas Eve ideas might still do it for you too.
Let’s face it though, the most important one from this list is the turkey sandwiches…what’s your fave thing about Christmas day?
